 Overview

‘A Joint Consensus Statement of the General Practice Partnership Advisory Council and the National Public Health Partnership Group’ defined population health as:

'The prevention of illness, injury and disability, reduction in the burden of illness and rehabilitation of those with a chronic disease. This recognises the social, cultural and political determinants of health. This is achieved through the organised and systematic responses to improve, protect and restore the health of populations and individuals. This includes both opportunistic and planned interventions in the general practice setting.'

Through a number of its programs, General Practice Tasmania is committed to supporting divisions to focus on the development in general practice of knowledge, skills and attitudes required to deliver organised and systematic care.

Program Objectives

As part of  the Information Management Program, General Practice Tasmania undertakes the collection, analysis, interpretation and reporting of key primary health performance and health status indicators and trends at both state and regional levels consistent with the needs of the Divisions Network within Tasmania.

General Practice Tasmania prepares the Primary Health Indicators for Tasmania (PHIT)  reports biannually - in April and again in September.
